MINUTES: Minutes of the March 15, 2010 Board Of Directors meeting were read by Roger Slocum and approved.

TREASURERS REPORT: Ken Farley read the treasurers report.

Bob Lemkuil asked if the check for PSJA Scholarships has been cashed. Ken replied that it has been and the report was accepted.

OLD BUSINESS:

Bob Lemkuil asked for a motion to appoint Gary Lewellan as Head Chorus Director. The motion was made and seconded and passed unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS:

Bob Lemkuil read a letter from George Gay stating that he must resign from the board and the chorus because his wife’s health has declined and he does not think he can be away from home for the length of time required to be an active member. The board thanked him for his service to the chapter and wished him well.

Bob also read a letter of resignation from Vice President Al Munro stating that he has bladder cancer and because of surgery and treatments that he is taking, will not be able to come to the valley for the current season.

Bob asked the board for suggestions concerning a portable sound system for chorus concerts. It was noted that there have been serious problems with park systems in the past. Bob said that Roger Vick has been researching the problem and has a system to recommend to the chorus. After a brief discussion, everyone agreed to continue that project.

The next order of business concerned the recruiting of new members. Bob expressed the importance of replacing members that normally drop out each year, and the need for new and younger men in leadership. Glen Vissering showed an attractive brochure, that he designed, that explains the chorus activity and provides information about joining. Bob also suggested that frequently running an ad in the newspaper could be effective. The Senior Ambassadors and the Sweet Adelines have done this in the past.

Bob pointed out the importance of replacing George as PR agent quickly.

Glen Vissering made a motion to pay $100.00 for summer storage for the chorus trailer. Dennis Bush seconded and the motion carried. He also asked for someone to keep the trailer between concerts during the winter. Bob Lemkuil said he has a place for it.

Glen asked about booking a concert at Fun & Sun resort in San Bonito. There has been a reluctance in the past to booking concerts that far away but It was agreed that Harlingen and San Bonito should be included in the chorus performing area. Glen said it is getting harder to get bookings and may have a negative effect on future income. A suggestion was made to use sample CDs to promote the chorus, but it was pointed out that the CDs that we have are not of very good quality.

Glen asked about posters for this year and George said there are some with open dates left from last year. Don Bell said that Copy Zone will print them at a reasonable Price if you order at least fifty.

Ken Farley gave a report on the income from last year’s concerts that totaled $5874.76

GOOD OF THE CHAPTER:

Dennis Bush said he frequently gets requests for entertainment where the full chorus or quartets are not available or appropriate, such as, limited space and scheduling. He suggested having a variable program and /or a smaller group that could be adapted to these situations.

A request for a sing-out at the veterans home in February was put on hold.

Jay Springfield resigned as chapter librarian due to health issues. Bob expressed his regret and asked if he would continue to sing. Jay said that he would remain on the music committee and try to sing with the chorus.

Joe Melson reported that he has not heard from the PSJA school about the scholarships given last season. It was noted that we do not receive thanks or acknowledgment from the scholarship recipients. Bob Lemkuil said the chorus members would like to have the students give a report on what they plan to do with the money. Don Bell asked if it would be better to give The money to the music department instead of to individual students. It was felt that giving to the student is more personal.

Bob Lemkuil asked about singing at the mall before Christmas. Everyone was in favor but it was noted that there is a problem with parking. A suggestion was made to gather at another location and shuttle or carpool to the mall. A time will be announced later.

Bob Lemkuil asked if the December meeting could be moved up to the second Monday as he will be gone on the third. Everyone agreed.

Don Bell made a motion to adjourn seconded by George Gay.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 A.M.

Next Meeting: December 13, 2010

Secretary: Roger Slocum
